If you haven’t heard, we’ve been really busy working with Tim Montgomerie on an innovative and unconventional news services platform that breaks the mould.
UnHerd isn’t your traditional news platform. Breaking the mold of conventional news services, they don’t chase breaking news as they believe the latest things are rarely the most important.
They utilise the talents of their journalist, giving them adequate time to delve more deeply into their subject areas, challenging out-of-date, incorrect or even dangerous thinking on economics, politics, technology, religion and the media. Instead, they focus on profiling thinking and movements from around the world that do not receive the attention they deserve.
Conventionally cows are herd mammals, However, this isn’t your conventional cow. In-line with the brands non-conformist attitude, the maverick rearing cow breaks free from the herd-like thinking that has become so normalized in modern day news services. The disruptive mascot runs free throughout the brand, interacting with various elements.
Our brief was to create a unconventional news services platform. Traditional news sites revolve around basic formatting that’s derived from the basic aesthetics of printed newspapers. This often results in rigid layouts that lack energy, a voice and movement.
Being a digital-first news platform with a unique approach to reporting, we didn’t conform to the aesthetics of traditional news. Instead, we set out to challenge the traditional ‘story telling’ template.
This resulted in a design that was liberated in its presentation of information. Fluidity and movement within the layout adds energy, resulting in a clear user experience that still embodies the unconventional, disruptive ethos of the brand, strongly positioning UnHerd as an alternative to the conventions of digital publishing.
